Best-of-five option for SSC pupils from March
Students appearing for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam this year can heave a sigh of relief. The Maharashtra state board of secondary and higher secondary education announced on Monday that SSC students can avail of the best-of-five option for college admission from this year.
This means the top five scores out of six subjects will be considered for college admission. While scores in English and Marathi will be compulsorily looked at, the lowest marks out of Hindi, mathematics, science and social sciences won't be considered. Students opting for science in FYJC must get at least 40% in science subjects in SSC. Board secretary TN Supe said a decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Ashok Chavan.
The board has, however, invited suggestions from teachers, students and parents before February 15. State school education minister Balasaheb Thorat said, "Some earlier decisions were opposed. We want to address all issues this time." Mumbai divisional board secretary VS Mhatre told DNA it has invited suggestions to do away with problems later. Supe said the state government will take a final decision after going through all suggestions....
