When women say cheers!
Bollywood has come of age. Stories are progressive, the protagonists are ‘regular’ people and more of reality is being shown on 70mm. So, in the midst of all this ‘growth’ what is to be made of the increasing number of scenes that show women openly enjoying their booze? Priyanka Chopra in Fashion, Kareena Kapoor in 3 Idiots and most recently Vidya Balan in Ishqiya have all flaunted their whiskies and unabashedly downed a bottle or two. Is this a case of art imitating life or is it the other way round?
We spoke to some bartenders and people in the city to find out whether women in Jaipur are actually drinking more, or is it the fact that they are open about it now that has drawn attention towards them?
“Over the past two years, liquor consumption amongst women has doubled,” informs GR Khera, senior general manager, sales, United Spirits. And we are not talking about the just ‘safe’ cocktails. Women seem to be high on rum, vodka and tequila shots. “Earlier, white spirits like Bacardi, Romanov vodka, Bombay Sapphire, and Absolut were never on the preferred list of drinks amongst women,” says Dileep Singh Rajawat, bartender, The Grunge.
Women have stopped letting their morals getting in the way of enjoying their ‘Cosmoplotitans’ and are saying their ‘cheers’ loud and clear.
